Success at the EDAI Symposium at CaixaForum, Madrid

EDAI successfully held at Caixaforum Madrid, the EDAI Symposium on “Advances in Autism from a Multidisciplinary Perspective”, which brought together national and international experts on the 23 November 2023. The Symposium featured notable attendees included Doña Alejandra Serrano, the Director General of Care for People with Disabilities in the Community of Madrid.

The technical sessions highlighted key topics in Autism research: Leticia Asenjo, psychologist and Technical Director of EDAI, explored the practical implementation of the double empathy model in bridging the communication gap and Frédérique Bonnet-Brilhault, psychiatrist from the Université de Tours, France, delved into the role of sensory perception in autism development. Elena Martínez Cayuelas, neuropediatrician from the Jiménez Díaz Foundation, discussed the connection between sleep, circadian systems, and Autism Spectrum Disorder, and in the afternoon, Pedro Caldeira, child psychiatrist from the Pediatric Hospital of Lisbon, addressed the challenging task of differential diagnosis between Autism from Sensory Regulation Disorders in childhood.

The Symposium also featured unique perspectives: Sara Codina, an author and advocate, provided a first-person insight into living with Autism.

In summary, the EDAI Symposium marked an important step forward in advancing our understanding of Autism in the Madrid community by promoting a multidisciplinary approach on the Autism spectrum.
